The artist has given the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his third album his work was declared the top album of the past year.

He has decided to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous small stages across Britain.

The money supported spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The idea that money from shows in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when the band received the trophy in the mid-90s for their release their work, lead singer the singer announced that the band would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her bounty among multiple good causes, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," the artist told outlets.

In recent years, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners the group contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said artist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory touched the lives of others."

Last week, the trust revealed it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were acquired under the community ownership program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "shares" in the properties.
